The Founder
Martin Kohli is a sociologist and founder of the Kohli Foundation for Sociology. His work has significantly impacted research on the life course, generational relations, family, aging, and the welfare state (h-index of 72 on Google Scholar). He has held positions at the University of Constance (1971-77), the Free University of Berlin (1977-2007), and the European University Institute (2004-2012) where he is now Emeritus Professor. During this period, he had various visiting appointments and fellowships in the US and Europe. He is a member of both the Berlin-Brandenburg and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and from 1997-1999 was president of the European Sociological Association. In 2014, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern.
