Selection Committee

 

The Selection Committee is formed by the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of the Kohli Foundation for Sociology. In addition, we invite two external scientist for each round of selections. At present these are: Prof. Marta Tienda (Princeton) and Prof. Sawako Shirahase (Tokyo). 

Marta Tienda is Emeritus Professor of Demographic Studies and Sociology at Princeton University. Her research focuses on race and ethnic differences in social inequality. Since July 2021 Marta Tienda is the President of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences.

Sawako Shirahase is Professor of Sociology at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, the University of Tokyo. Her research focuses on social demography, social stratification and inequality in cross-national perspective. Currently she is the Director of the University of Tokyo Center for Contemporary Japanese Studies.
